it's not going to come as a surprise to hear that its PSP handheld console will also play music for you on the go. All you need is a Memory Stick Duo to store MP3s on and a USB cable with a Mini-B type connector
One great aspect of using the PSP is that you can play WAVs files, and encoded songs in the AAC, ATRACs, WMAs, MP3 and UMD formats. Though the PSP, regardless of model number, was designed mainly to play games for you, it is now possible to play your favorite music on your PSP. Here is the process on how you can do that:
1. Choose a Memory Stick for holding your music files. The larger the memory of your Memory Stick, the more music it can hold. It is advisable to use the Memory Stick Duo because the other type (Memory Stick Pro Duos) may not be able to accommodate all of your music files. You should also use a Memory Stick of at least version 2.00 standard or even higher than that if possible.
2. Turn on the PSP console.
3. Get a USB cable and link up your PSP to your personal computer or Mac with that USB cable. The end of your USB cable that connects to the PSP should have a Mini-B connector while the other end should use a standard USB connector for plugging into the PC or Mac.
4. Check out your PSP home menu and look for "Settings."
5. Under "Settings" you should be able to scroll for the "USB Connection" icon.
6. Press on the X BUTTON. This allows your PSP to show the "USB Mode" indicator so that the computer you are using (either a PC or Mac) will recognize your PSP as a USB storage device.
7. Look for a folder in your Memory Stick that says "PSP" or "Portable Storage Device". If your Memory Stick lacks such a folder, then make one labeled that way using the PC'S Window Explorer or your Mac's Finder. Within that "PSP" folder or similarly named folder, you may create a new folder labeled "MUSIC."
8. You may now drag and drop a certain number of audio files into that "MUSIC" folder just like you would with other folders in your PC. You need to understand what music formats your PSP can accommodate before you resort to doing this though because your PSP may be geared for a specific music format only, like MP3.
9.Look for the Trash icon of your Mac and drag and drop your drive icon into the Trash icon to disconnect the PSP console. If you are using a PC, then you have to search first for the bottom menu bar, look for the "Safely Remove Hardware" command on that menu bar, then click on it.
You may now remove your USB cable then press on the circle button so that you get back to the home menu.
And that is basically it! Now you can start using your PSP as a music player. The advantage of using the PSP as a music player is that provides you very good quality music output, especially if you rely on high-end earphones to listen in.
