Phixr Online Photo Editor

Photo editing is no longer a domain reserved for nerds! Anybody can do it from just about anywhere! All you need is of course a computer and an internet connection. You will also need a photograph to edit, and you don’t even need to know how to edit. I’m generally rather skeptical when it comes to online applications because they are often slow and take ages to load. However, to my surprise, the Phixr Online Photo Editor loaded pretty quickly even on my slow wireless internet connection. The application is also pretty user-friendly and easy to use. This is important because for anyone to start using an application or a website; you have to feel comfortable with it.   Phixr has an air of simplicity about it which immediately puts you at ease.

The name is self-explanatory - Phixr Online Photo Editor. Let’s take a look at how it works?  Well, to start with, photo editing is the process of making a photograph look much better and more perfect. There are so many things you can do with a photo editor - you can make yourself look much fairer or much darker. You can make yourself appear much slimmer or fatter. One of the most common things you can do is to remove “red-eyes” from your photographs. Hey, you can even remove the yellow stains from your teeth and make them glow perfectly white! You can touch up the colors or if you please, or increase or decrease the colors in a photograph.

Having taken a look the things we can do with a picture editor lets see what Phixr Online Photo Editor has to offer.  The folks at Phixr have kept things so simple that even a kid will be able to do handle it with ease. It works this way - in order for you to get access the application, you can use either a Temporary account or a Permanent one.  All you have to do is to go their website and click on the “Getting Started” button (alternatively you can login with your username and password, if you already have them). The next screen will let you know that your temporary account has been created and will give you the option to register for a permanent account, for free, of course!

Let’s just use the temporary account for our discussion. You can upload a photograph into Phixr from many sources - you can browse your computer and pick one of your photographs from there or you can select a photograph from places like Facebook, Flickr, Fotopic.net, Picasa, Smugmug, Webshots etc. You will have to provide a one time access using your respective username and password for each of these applications.

After uploading the picture you wanted to edit with Phixr Online Photo Editor, the main editing window allows you to rotate, crop and resize photos. You can also give your photograph some fun effects like aging it or giving it a different color. Adding a speech box or text to your picture is done in seconds. You can add frames, preset images & fun effects. The “lomographic” effect is something you need to check out. The “make instant photo” option is pretty cool!  I cannot tell you everything about Phixr here, but once you are done with editing, you can save your photograph onto your computer, upload it to a third party site or email it! It’s cool and you did it yourself!
