If you want a powerful all round laptop then the HP Pavillion DV9565 is highly recommended if you have that sort of money to spend. This machine uses the AMD Turion 64 x 2 Dual Core processor so you can be sure that it will remain top of the league for a while to come, it’s RAM is 2048 MB so you will be able to run multiple applications which wont slow it down or have any negative effect on the performance.

This laptop will have sufficient hard drive space, even for the users that download mass images, music, games and music. The standard internal memory is a massive 320 GB, if in the unlikely event you manage to fill it up you can buy additional external hard drives giving you more memory. If you do download music and videos you will be able to write them to a CD/DVD as it has an inbuilt DVD writer and necessary software included.

I have owned and used this laptop over 10 hours daily for 4 months now and I am astounded with it, it runs very well indeed, 2Ghz + 2Gb ram, actually outperforms my 2.4ghz Pentium 4 machine. Has an average graphics card, Nvidia 8400m gs.
The laptop includes: built in high res webcam, stereo microphones, average quality laptop speakers, 2 headphone sockets (and SPDIF), a IEEE1394 (firewire) connection, VGA, HDMI, and S-vhs output for a 2nd monitor/tv, dial up modem, a 5-in-1 camera card reader, wLan and bluetooth, 2 remote controls- a larger one designed for dvd’s & the included(!!) DVB (freeview) tuner card, and a smaller one designed to control windows media player, winamp or your favourite music player.
It is NOT very portable, as far as laptops go, it is one of the larger ones, 17.5 inch screen on a laptop is far bigger than most, and will only just squeeze into the laptop backpack I bought for it. Due to the size, it has a full keyboard including a numeric keypad, which is rare on laptops, and is fantastic in my opinion as I use professional applications that use this. The built in fingerprint scanner never fails to make you feel professional when people expect to see you type a password to log in!
Bad things: One criticism is the lack of a physical volume control, there are a few touch sensitive buttons to control media players, including a volume up and down, but these only control the windows software volume, meaning it is slow to change volume, and if you are not logged in, you cannot change the volume, which can be embarrassing if you go to use the computer in a quiet public place, such as a library, as in the start up tune cannot be muted until you log in. Another thing, the hard disk space claims to be320gb, in reality, there are 2 149gb hdd\\\\\\\'s installed, one of which has a 10gb untouchable partition (I’ve tried!) which has \\\\\\\"restore data\\\\\\\" in case you ever need to repair windows, as the laptop comes with no vista disk, which is a shame, and after 10gb of windows system files and drivers, leaves you with roughly 280gb of free space. (Which to be fair is still ample) (This size exaggerating extends to ALL larger hard drives sold these days, portable and built-in, manufacturers claim that a gigabyte is a billion bytes, rather than the proper 1,073,741,824). Battery life is also a little disappointing (aprox 5 hours on word, 2.5 watching videos or dvd\\\\\\\'s.)
Apart from volume control, size, battery, and lower-than-expected disk space, this is a fantastic laptop that I will keep and love for many years, and would (and do!) recommend this exact model every time.
