Soft Drink Batteries For Nokia Cell Phones?

Energy and fuel alternatives are seemingly always in the news these days. With the future of oil always uncertain it comes as no surprise. Not only are bio-fuels and the like more environmentally friendly but they are also cheaper. With these big reasons alternative fuel sources will continue to be popular topics. That's why Daizi Xheng, a Chinese developer, has developed modified Nokia Cell Phones that run on soft drinks.

Like many mobile devices such as Verizon Cell Phones, Nokia Cell Phones uses lithium-ion batteries. The major concerns over lithium-ion batteries is that they are bad for the environment and for their purpose, charging electronics and staying charged, they are not even that great. The battery does not last as long as it should. That's why Xheng invented his Nokia Cell Phones that run purely on soda. Why soda? Why not? They are inexpensive and found everywhere throughout the world. According to Xheng, who we hope will make models for all phones including Verizon Cell Phones, the soda charged phone last four times longer than the standard battery.

The idea is still in its stages of infancy which means many kinks are left to be worked out. How much will it cost to manufacture Nokia Cell Phones that run on soft drinks? Is it not still wasteful when you consider the packaging and transportation of soda that is involved in making this whole set up work? Sure it is but that doesn't mean it can't work. The idea is not going to fix the problem of batteries overnight the point is that there are ideas being generated at all.

At some point in the future, hopefully the not so distant future, we will see all mobile devices, Verizon cell phones and Nokia cell phones alike run on an alternative to batteries. Will that be soft drinks as Mr. Xheng has made? Well, likely not. However the point is that if there is a model phone made that runs on soda and has a longer battery life than the current batteries that we are using, then something more reasonable is likely just around the corner. If New York City busses can run on an alternative fuel it seems like progressions in handheld technology can be made as well. Hopefully Mr. Xheng can keep experimenting with Nokia Cell Phones and find that alternative. I want a mobile device that runs on my own disdain for those around, please make it happen Mr. Xheng.

The Mobile World Congress 2009 will take place in Barcelona next week (Feb 16-19), under the big cloud of uncertainty that the current economic downturn presents to the mobile industry. Reports are saying that the event organizers expect a 15% decline in the number of visitors, compared to the 54,000 who visited in 2008. The budget shrinkage also impacted the Israeli delegation to GSMA, which has been reduced from 60 to 46 companies this year.
