Over the past 100 years there have been many inventions that have influenced the world, but none have had more impact than that of the computer. By looking at the results that it has on communication, business, and of every day life, it is clear that the computer is an invention that has affected humankind.
The computer is an invention that continues to improve and advance every day, and the world goes on changing also due to these advances in technology. Communication is something that continues to advance and has done so rapidly through the years. We have gone from telegrams delivered by horse, to telephones, and now with computers, the internet. In the past few years the internet has become a key factor in the lives of many. You can hardly find a job application or any other kind of form now that asks for information that does not have a space for your email address. Long distance letter writing that takes many days and even weeks has been replaced with email over the internet that is done in seconds. I used to live in New York City for a couple of years while the rest of my family was in Utah and the main form of communication that we had was email. Without the computer, my family and I would not have communicated very often. I have many friends over seas that I've wanted to stay in contact with, and can do so easily and quickly by way of computer over the internet. The computer has quickened communication and made the world seem smaller in the sense that we can communicate to almost anywhere with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Another area that sees much impact from the computer is the business economy. If you were to walk into any business, you are very likely to find a computer somewhere in the office. The computer is the place to store all the information that prior to its time would be stored in mounds of papers and files. To be able to hold a job in many places, one has to know how to use a computer. Many companies do a majority of their business and advertising over the internet and if it weren't for the computer, they wouldn't be in business anymore. The computer production industry itself has a huge influence on the lives of people. For example, the company Microsoft, which is a multi-billion dollar corporation employs thousands of people and allows them to provide for themselves and their families. It is quite easy to see that the computer practically keeps the world running and without it, things would be a lot harder.
Overall, the computer has had, and continues to have a tremendous effect on the world and all who live in it. It is needed in almost all aspects of life and for this reason, it is the invention that has had the most impact on the world.
