The History And Future Of Verizon Cellular Phones

Verizon Communications Inc., is an American telecommunications and broadband provider most commonly known for Verizon Cell Phones. Before Verizon Cellular Phones were even a thought for most people, the company was still known as its original name, Bell Atlantic Corporation, one of the seven baby bells from AT&T Corporation.

The baby bells, including Verizon Cellular Phones, were created due to an anti-trust judgement against AT&T Corporation in 1984. Fast forward to June of 2000 and the company had merged with GTE, recording one of the biggest mergers in United States Business History. The merger was priced at more than $52 Billion. This is also the time when the name was changed to Verizon Communications Inc.

Today Verizon wireless, the branch that deals with Verizon Cell Phones is the largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States. They have a total of 89 million subscribers. This number continues to increase as their operations are expanded by doing such things as offering their service any cell phone that operates on their CDMA technology to switch to Verizon Cell Phones service.

But the company is currently working with their LTE (Long Term Evolution) Team to phase out of the 3G phones and into the 4G market. The trails began in 2008, marking the shift away from their CDMA technology and gradually flowing into an entirely new form of technology that would allow customers traveling abroad to use their services. This is where they hope to expand their market. In January of 2009 Verizon Cellular Phones launched their Femtocell known as the Verizon network extender. However, at A Long Term Evolution developers conference in May of 2009 the company stated that they hope to unveil their fourth generation line of phones, which will have a running speed of 700mhz, in the following manner: the network should launch in 20-30 markets in the second half of 2010 with the a trial run happening at the end of 2009. The trial run will have a network on the East and West coast of the United States, with those locations still disclosed.

Verizon wireless is an absolute giant in the industry. They currently continue to expand with the help of savvy business decisions and new technologies. When the fourth generation mobile devices hit the market is still somewhat of an unknown. But it is promising that these devices will exceed expectations and likely fair even better than the immensely popular and successful third generation of cell phones.
