The Pros and Cons of Hiring Cheap Computer Repair Help from a Classified Website

Posted: May 20, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

If you have a computer issue that you cannot fix, you might call upon a professional computer expert.  They are known for their great service, but their not-so wallet-friendly rates.  Is there a cheaper alternative?  You can hire help from a classified website, but is this a good idea?

The Pros

Cheap Prices:  While some businesses do advertise their computer repair service on websites like Craigslist.org, you will typically find that most of the repair help offered on classified websites is from individuals who do the work on the side.  For example, you might have an adult who just has a passion for computers.  Or, you might have a college student in the mist of obtaining a degree is who just looking to make some extra cash.  These individuals don't survive financially from offering a computer repair service; therefore, their rates tend to be lower.

Easy to Find:  Since the economy is leaving a lot to be desired in terms of jobs, more individuals are looking for ways to make money on the side.  Do a search on a website like Craigslist and you are sure to find a handful of people selling their computer repair help.  More choices do equal better prices.  Moreover, these individuals are easy to find.  Visit Craigslist.org to perform a search or use a multi-search website that allows you to search thousands of classified websites at once!

The Cons

Can Be Risky:  Computers are tricky.  Chances are you did a little bit of research online before deciding to call upon a computer repair expert.  This means that the problem isn't any easy fix.  But wait!  Can someone who might not have a full education or background in computer repair get the job done without making it worse?  You might not know until it is too late.  That is why you should always proceed with caution when getting computer repair help from a non-professional service.  Ask a few questions, ask to speak with an old customer, and so forth.

Scams:  It is well-known that classified websites are home to many scams.  Don't run for the hills scared, but rely on your common sense and best judgment.  If you get a "funny feeling" or a "bad vibe" go with it.  Also, never pay for a computer repair service upfront if that individual is taking your computer home to work on it.  Moreover, always know where that home is.  Don't be left with just an online screen name if your so-called computer expert takes your computer and disappears.

Now that you know the pros and cons of using online classified websites to find cheap computer repair help, are you ready to start the search?
