Not every computer user knows or even realizes that you should perform regular computer maintenance on your computer to keep it running smoothly. People presume that they can just keep using their computer, adding files every day, moving files, and deleting files with no apparent consequences. Well they are wrong!
Every time you turn your computer on and simply go to check your emails or read a document, new files are created and stored without you knowing. When you go on the internet you create more files like cookies, history logs, temporary download files, and more. Unfortunately the average user does not realize these files are being created and therefore does not see it necessary to clean them out.
If you have a Windows operating system such as Windows XP or Windows Vista, they come equipped with system tools that will help you maintain your computer for optimal performance. There are also some really great free programs that can also help maintain your computer.
To narrow it down, I have a quick computer maintenance checklist:
- Backup
- Clean out temporary and unwanted files
- Check your hard drive (check disk)
- Defrag
- Update your virus checker regularly
If you already have this computer maintenance checklist covered then you can rest easy knowing that you have done your best to maintain your computer. However if you have no idea how to clean out files or defrag your computer then it is very important that you find out how.
This is why I have created the ultimate computer maintenance checklist at my website (Tips4pc.com). It takes you through step by step of what you should be doing to keep your computer maintained and up to scratch. It also shows you where to find the system tools you need to complete the computer maintenance checklist.
When your computer starts to run slower than usual you know it is in dire need of some computer maintenance.
