Trying to Figure Out Which is Better

The battle over which is better; Face book or Myspace is at the forefront of everyone's minds. For devout Face book users, Facebook has long been known as a social networking site in which friends can hook up with other friends, find long lost friends, keep up with family members or even befriend their favorite professors. However, for doubting fans, many are wondering whether or not Face book is becoming more like Myspace. In the beginning, Myspace was a huge hit in the United States. It was (and still is) a free service in which members could play around with the layout of their web pages, mixing things up and checking out other people's profiles. You could also add music and other neat special effect to your page. However, over time, it turned out that Myspace was attracting younger and younger users, which has since led to a slew of problems with underage issues and child pornography cases. While myspace users are now able to personalize their profiles with cool backgrounds, it was originally started as a way for unknown bands to promote themselves. Now, it seems like everyone and their little sister has a my space account. Due to recent scandals involving children using My space and becoming targets for predators, as well as the various problems with viruses, Myspace is running a close second to Face-book, which has gained steam.

According to some people, Face-book is not becoming like My-space. Sure, Myspace is less professional, and some would even go so far as to argue that it is geared more towards kids and wannabe musicians. No matter the case, one thing remains true; Facebook and Myspace are both social networking sites whose main purpose is to connect people, and that's exactly what they both do. On a personal note, if it wasn't for Facebook, I probably wouldn't still be in regular communication with many of my friends that I went to elementary and high school with. Contrary to what many people might believe, I think that Facebook (when used for it's original intention) is a great medium with which to connect and communicate with friends. However, nothing will take the place of face-to-face communication or even hearing someone's voice over the phone, but for those of us who live in other states or other countries, Facebook and Myspace are great options to have around.

Facebook accounts aren't quite as flexible as their Myspace counterparts when it comes to page layout and various design elements. They can't "personalize" their profile page with glittered text or stream in live music...or can they? However, despite all of this, Facebook users aren't complaining about the format. Facebook's layout gives a more professional feel to the atmosphere, which was once open only exclusively to enrolled students at various universities and colleges. Instead, the thing that seems to irk FB users is the fact that lately, FB keeps changing its look. It's as if you get used to one thing, and then you realize that it's all been changed around. Additionally, Facebook used to be something that was closed off, only being available to those people who were actively enrolled in college (which was verified via a college email address). Today, however, Facebook is available to anyone, but some fear that changing the rules to allow anyone to join will lead to the ultimate demise of Facebook. There has also been some recent controversy over people's personal information being distributed as well as never really being "erased" after someone deletes his or her account. While Facebook has temporarily resolved some of these issues, it still comes under the scrutiny of its millions of users.
