Add Value To Your Home Without Spending A Fortune

When people think about making their home more valuable, they think about adding things like a new kitchen, new bathroom, or perhaps even an extension.

But you don’t need to splash out to that extent to start making a difference.  You can spend a lot less than this and still make worthwhile improvements.   What’s more you will make your home easier to sell too, if you happen to be moving on.

Here are some suggestions.

1.    Look outside your home as well as inside.  How does your front and back garden look?  Some people are so focused on making a difference inside their home they forget to look outside.  Even regular mowing the lawn and weeding the flowerbeds will make a big difference.  And small plants can be bought for pennies to fill up bare flowerbeds and baskets.

2.    Spring clean your whole house.  This will improve the look of your home if you are thinking of selling it.  A grubby home won’t command the same asking price as one that has been properly cleaned and presented to potential buyers.  It doesn’t take too long to do and it makes the whole house look, feel and smell wonderful.

3.    Redecorate.  If you can’t afford to add that new extension or refit the kitchen, simply redecorate the rooms you already have.  If the wallpaper is fine but the paintwork looks a bit discoloured, you might be able to get away with just repainting that.  You may not need to do every room, but if you do you can just tackle one at a time, as and when you can afford it.

4.    Add new accessories.  It’s surprising how a few new accessories can transform a room.  Think especially about putting new curtains up and buying cushions to match.  It can make a huge difference.

5.    Refinish or stain any wooden furniture that needs revitalising.  This will take a bit longer but it can be done with wooden chairs, tables, even kitchen doors.

6.    Pay attention to your carpet.  Even if you can’t afford to buy a new one, a deep clean will make more of a difference than you might think.  If they aren’t too bad a simple carpet deodoriser can be sprinkled on and then vacuumed up again.  Alternatively you could try carpet shampoo.  It can take a little time to do properly, but the effort is worth it.

As you can see you don’t need to spend a fortune to make a big difference.  Simply focus on one task at a time and you’ll soon have a much better looking home – for very little money invested.
