Choosing the Right Hardwood Floor

Finding the right hardwood floor in New Jersey is no easy task. Trying to determine what wood floor product is right for the conditions they will be installed and what conditions they will subjected to is a bit complicated. To add to that, hardwood floor products are one of the most sought after hard surface flooring in remodeling and new home construction.

Hardwood floor installation in NJ is simple enough. Just call a contractor or a local remodeling company and it should be fine, except with this kind of renovation, you should be extra careful as this is a lifelong investment and it doesn’t come cheap. There is this one incident that I heard about where a couple wanted to install hardwood floors in PA, and maybe in their excitement they hired the first company that offered the cheapest bid for the job. The installation was done poorly and they didn’t want to give a refund or fix it for free, so the couple decided to sue. In the end, they lost more money in court fees than the original asking price for the hardwood flooring in PA.

Anyway, here are a few things that I learned while on my quest to find the right hardwood floor: choosing wood flooring for your house has a few distinct advantages. For one, it is easy to maintain. Maintenance of wood floors is easy as long as you remember to protect your floors with area rugs and other floor protectors. The only danger is failing to protect the wood finish from heavy furniture and by using the wrong materials to clean and may contribute to it being damaged, not to mention void your warranty and it being harder to recoat when the time comes.

Also, hardwood floors are ecologically helpful. Unlike most floor coverings, wood floors come from a natural resource that is sustainable. Long gone are the days when timber was cut down with little thought for the long term consequences on the nation's forests. Today most timber is cut from forests that are carefully managed to ensure continued resources in the future.
It is also good for the health. Indoor air quality is one of our top health threats. Installed in the home or elsewhere, wood floors help contribute to a healthy living environment. Hard surface flooring such as hardwood floors does not rap or harbor dust mites or molds and this creates better air quality especially for people who suffer from allergies.

In the end, I chose the most popular color: red oak natural. I guess I am a bit of a conformist. The color and the texture is just classy and most complements the existing furniture and colors in the living room. I wasn’t worried about the finish as there are a few good companies I know that do hardwood floor refinishing in NJ.

Come on, 5 million of you watch Grand Designs when it’s on, yet only 15,000 people a year make the effort to build. Well the credit crunch has taken all of these reasons to NOT build your own home away!

New Construction Techniques for Commercial Buildings

By: Daniel Kreimer | 26/11/2009
The design of housing blocks is without doubt one of the most interesting and attractive subjects of contemporary architecture. This is because in these projects the architects face some of the most serious conflicts generated by present-day society: the problem of high density development in large cities, the shortage of development land and the degradation of quality of life due to factors such as acoustic and environmental pollution.

I’ve been running jobsites for more than a quarter of a century and done so with great success I might add. Being in charge poses many challenges on a day to day basis. And, it’s not always easy. Responsibility runs much deeper than constructing a slab, four walls, some doors and windows.

In the construction of modern buildings, glass has become an essential component. With modern technology, the permutation of glass types has been both varied and exciting. There have been applications in both small and large amounts - from kitchen wall splash backs, cabinetry and staircase balustrades and threads, to laminated double-glazing for office buildings and skyscrapers.

Timber and its Use in Architecture

By: Kai Chua | 25/11/2009
Timber has always been a favoured material for its warmness and texture. It has been extensively used not only in interiors but also as external cladding. Many architects and designers as well as owners alike love the material for its unique character. This is the prime reason why it is used in expressions ranging from tropical and zen simplicity to modernist articulations and variations. In Singapore architecture, there is also a lot of interest in its applications.

The Importance of the Playground

Many people including myself strongly believe that play time is integral for the primary formation of the skills and attitudes as well as cognitive development during the formative years of a child or a toddler. If you study nature closely, you will find that most if not all mammal neonates and developing young develop and reinforce their skills and techniques for later use in life during playtime with a sibling or a similarly aged peer in an animal group or collection.
