High Impact Low Cost Tips for Home Reconstruction

Home is where the heart is . . . but if you find that your home no longer reflects who you are – your personality and your interests, then it is definitely time to consider reconstructing.

Maybe you now feel proud of yourself for having a more mature disposition in life, and you want that growth to be reflected in your home.  Or maybe, you have lost a lot of weight and you now want your home to feel light and unburdened. Here are some tips on how to make those changes with reconstruction projects that maximize impact without spending a fortune.

Tear Down the Great Divide

The floor plan of most older homes typically divides spaces with solid walls. A great way to instantly update your home is to reconstruct the space by knocking down walls. A free flowing set up – one that keeps the living room, dining room and kitchen as one grand space with very minimal to no partition effectively gives your home a modern appeal, makes the room appear larger, and more bright and airy.

This aspect of reconstruction is comparatively simple and straight forward, provided that the walls are not carrying the weight of whatever is on top, especially the ceiling, and do not pose any danger to the overall structural integrity of house.

Bring the Outside In

If you have a swimming pool or a charming garden, consider putting up sliding glass doors to replace typical wooden doors as part of your reconstruction project. This would make a huge impact as it opens up the living spaces to the views outside.

With floor to ceiling glass panels, the sliding doors allow your line of sight to go farther giving the impression that you expanded the interior space when in fact, it just remains the same. Bringing natural elements from the outside in also adds more life into the space while being protected from the elements.

Raise the Ceiling

When possible, just raise the ceiling without reconstructing the entire roof, which of course would be a major and expensive reconstruction undertaking. Most old houses have attics which most of the time largely remain unused, inhabited only by spiders and other insects. Demolishing the ceiling would add more height commonly to the living room which gives the space a more cathedral-like effect.

Spruce Up the Entry

What better way to show off a reconstruction project than doing it in plain sight for all the world to see. If you have a front lawn, start from there. Spruce up your yard with landscaping, some garden vases, a natural stone pathway, and maybe an inexpensive garden fountain.

Then reconstruct the front of your house: refinish that wooden door and replace those rusty old knobs. Add some decorative  accents and wall light fixtures to make your home more welcoming to family, friends and neighbors alike.

Remember, reconstructing your home to make it a much personal space and a joy to live in doesn't have to cost a fortune. Your guests will love you for it too.
