How To Design Great Home Decking

Posted: Oct 08, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

With home modernization increasingly an ever more popular hobby for people, its no surprise that the idea of fitting out your garden with a fantastic looking, and superbly functional wooden deck has turned hugely popular in the last few years.

Many decks are put together by do-it-yourself fans, and often results in decks that are devoid of muchin the way of style, and usually are in conflict to the rest of the house as far as its general look is concerned. This does not have to be the case however, with a little careful planning and and eye for details its possible for the home owner to design and construct a custom, beautiful and stylish garden deck without the need to employ the professionals.

Here we will look at what you can do as a DIY fan to construct a better looking deck for your property, and give you some insight how you can come up with your own decking ideas and designs.

Firstly, you need to consider what your garden deck will be made of. While in the majority of cases the principal material will be wood, that's not the only choice, and if it is wood the choice of wood is a decision that can greatly add to the success of deck in your home, and taking a little time to choose the right material will pay huge dividends when the construction is finished and you sit back to look at your nice new decking.

Other materials that can be used for decking include aluminium, that while a more expensive option, and a harder job to construct for the do-it-yourself fan, can occasionally add a great sense of style to the right type of house, in many cases though you will be using wood for your decking and woods such as Cedar make a fantastic choice for decking, as does Redwood.

For an even more plush feel you may think about Mahogany, which though often more expensive than many other woods, can certainly add character to a property when styled and built with some forethought and preparation.

Careful thought needs to be put into the design of your decking, having ideas for designs that will not compliment the style of your home will not result in a wonderful and complimentary end result. You should attempt to design and build the deck to match your home, and not stream ahead with the saw and nail gun and end up with something that looks wrong, or worse lowers the value of your home.

The same applies if your home has maybe a Victorian look with lots of fine and intricate 1features, then an elaborate and more complex design is clearly best, as long as the detailed features compliment the style of your home.

Clearly in the end how you design and build your deck is up to you, but by ensuring you match the style of your decking with the look of your property, you will have a result that compliments your house, raises its value, and is a pleasure to spend time on, and that, after-all, is the purpose.
