Authentic Indian Food – enjoy its wide range of taste and ingredients

Before you enter a restaurant to enjoy food from the Indian subcontinent, we suggest you to first have some knowledge about it. Though even without such prior knowledge regarding various aspects of the authentic Indian food is not necessary in eating out in a restaurants, but it would be more enjoyable if you know more about the cuisines you have ordered.

Some people associate Indian cuisines with few most popular ones like curry, but there are innumerable foods that can be served to you in any Indian restaurants in London and elsewhere. Know that the cuisines from the subcontinent have a wide range of varieties

You can exclusively ask for the authentic Indian food of northern region of the country, which is known for its balanced diet of roti or paratha served with dal, a preparation of pulses. Food of this region includes milk and other dairy products like yogurt, butter, paneer and ghee [clarified butter]. These cuisines generously use oil for deep frying of the food.

The South Indian food is has rice as its main ingredient in most of the cuisines. Grated coconut and coconut oil is frequently used for essence and aroma of the particular dish. When you wish to taste a typical south Indian food, you will be served with hot sambar, rasam, curd and pickles and two varieties of vegetables. As compared to the northern regions, the food in the south is less greasy and oily. Dosa, idli, vada are few of the most popular foods from this region. Non-vegetarian dishes have fishes as main ingredient.

The authentic Indian food from the eastern parts of the country is known for its sweet taste. You can taste a wide variety of sweets from this region. Rice is the main ingredient that dominates the meals. Oil is frequently used for cooking. Mustard oil is the main oil for the foods. Macherjhol [fish curry], momos, jhaal muri, thukpa and other preparations of fish are very popular in the region.

The West Indian food has wide range of dishes to offer. One of the most popular cuisines from this region comes from Rajasthan, with varieties of chutneys and pickles. Gujarat is famous for adding a pinch of sugar to most of the dishes. A thali from this state comes with 10 different varieties of vegetables. In Maharastra, most of the cuisines are steamed and roasted with ‘puran poli’ being the famous dish of the state through out the country.
