Early style pressure cookers made it possible to cook complete wholesome meals in less than an hour. This was a great new innovation for the busy homemaker. The popularity of pressure cooking rose with the increase in the number of homemakers who went out to work. However, the early models had a variety of safety issues. Later designs have eliminated the risk while maintaing the benefits.

Electric Pressure Cookers are a fairly new innovation. The electric pressure cooker enables you to  time the cooking process with more control. Many models have digital controls that allow easier monitoring of the steam pressure and the ability to permit preset cooking times.

Many models of electric pressure cookers also come with an added safety feature. A locking system is activated when the lid is closed. The lid can not be opened unless it is manually unlocked. This helps to reduce the risk that the user will be burned by steam or scalding water. Many have a fast release feature to permit small amounts of steam to be released.

Most variations of electric pressure cookers have removal pots. Most pots are made of stainless steal or have a non-stick surface. Not only are these pots easier to clean, but they can also be placed on a range for additional browning or sautéing.

Electric pressure cookers come in various sizes ranging from 2 qts to 8 qts. Most recipes are based on a 5 or 6 qt pressure cooker. One other advantage of pressure cooking is in that they are excellent ways to prepare cheaper cuts of meat. The steam pressure breaks down the meats fibers and leaves the meat tender.

In summary, electric pressure cookers provide the benefits of stovetop pressure cookers but with an added degree of control. Combine control with ease of use and the electric pressure cooker will provide years of pleasure in any kitchen.
