How To Make Easy Fruit Ice In Your Ice Cream Maker

Posted: Oct 14, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

You can make very tasty and easy fruit ice in an ice cream maker and it will come out perfectly "slushy" or you can place it in the freezer a little while for a more sorbet kind of texture.

I find that serving one of these after a big dinner always goes off very well. Everyone feels like something "sweet" but no one can face a heavy dessert and then these "sorbet" like "ice" is always very tasty and most guests love them.

An ice such as a lemon ice or an orange ice can, of course, also be used in between courses to clean the palate, as they so in the fancy restaurants. With one of the modern ice cream makers where you do not have to freeze the bowl for hours before you can use it, you can make a variety in a very short time. So, at your next dinner party you can surprise your guests with a wide choice of ices and ice creams to choose from.

To give you a basic idea, here are two very easy "fruity" ices you can try.

Papaya sorbet:

Ingredients:

  • 1 very rip papaya
  • 11/4 Cup sugar
  • The juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt

Method:

  1. Mix the pureed pawpaw with the lemon juice
  2. Add the salt and sugar and stir until it has dissolved
  3. Freeze according to the directions of your ice cream maker.

Of course, just about any kind of pureed fruit can be used in this recipe. Make sure you adjust the amount of sugar to the sweetness of the fruit. For a pawpaw ice cream you can omit the lemon juice and add one cup of cream to the mixture.

Orange Ice:

Ingredients:

  • 4 Cups of water
  • ¼ Cup of lemon juice
  • 2 Cups of sugar
  • 2 Cups orange juice
  • Grated rind of 2 oranges

Method:

  1. Boil the water and sugar for 5 minutes
  2. Add the juices and allow the mixture to cool down
  3. Strain the mixture and freeze according to the instruction of your ice cream maker.
  4. To make a lemon ice, substitute the orange juice and orange rind for lemon, but you will have to increase the amount of sugar to taste.

As you can see, with one of the modern ice cream makers, making fruit ice and sorbet is very easy. With the old fashioned one it will take you longer and you will not be able to make them on short notice. With one of the old fashioned ones you can still make these ices, you simply have to plan ahead in order to place the bowl in the freezer in time.

If you have an ice cream maker, try a tasty fruit ice today.
