Barbequing is a great way to share company of family and friends. It's a type of cooking where the cook is on display and needs to be getting it right. Even the most competent cooks can be put off. No-one wants to be in front of a bunch of people and be burning the food. It can also take some preparation and forward planning so many a barbeque can end up stuck in the corner of your garden and be neglected.

However if you can get the basics right you're sure to be successful at it, the tips and tricks to apply are not too hard to grasp.

If you are looking to buy a barbeque get the right one that is going to suit your need. Some are very easy to use like the Weber q320 which is a gas grill these don't differ much from a regular gas oven or large traditional charcoal barbeques like the Weber Ranch Kettle these take a bit more effort to handle but could be well-worth the extra effort and cost. There are a few which combine charcoal with gas like the Weber Performer but other types include braziers, built in barbeques, electric and disposable. During the summer you're going to find some great deals online or in local stores so shop around.

Fuel is going to be another consideration which ties in with choosing your barbeque, gas is convenient and a large tank will last you well which would have to be on the ground or you can get smaller tanks which stay hidden as part of the design. If you have a kettle, brazier, or built in barbeque you'll have the choice of wood, briquettes and lumpwood charcoal. Make sure you get good quality fuel as it can save you on time and can dramatically affect flavours.

When you buy a barbeque you will probably get tools with it that you need, some will only supply a couple or even none at all and will have to be brought separately. What you're going to need to be ready for every eventuality and just to make your cooking experience easier are: tongs, long handled fork, fish slice or spatula, hinged baskets, skewers/kebabs sticks, wooden and metal depending on what your cooking, griddles/hot plates/barbeque trays for delicate food like vegetables, wire brush for cleaning your grill rack, and heavy duty gloves also an apron will come in handy because if it's a party you don't want to be getting oil and other stuff splashing on your clothes.

Preparation with barbequing is essential so consider these important basic guidelines before you begin. No Pressure!
