Composing No Nonsense Sales Copy

When writing sales copy it is important to keep in mind you are trying to persuade someone into making a purchase. Of equal importance however you must remember that unless you engage people first they will likely leave your page. Therefore your writing strategy must focus on presenting to others only content that will capture their attention and keep them reading. In this way you will then be able to deliver your entire message!

Here are 3 tips as to what points you want to quickly make when composing any copy with the intent to persuade someone to make a purchase!

Attract and Engage

If you can not capture the attention of others all your previous efforts are wasted, harsh words but very true! Your writing strategy must start out with the 'hey look over here' mentality because if people are not attracted in some way, they will NEVER see your message. Since you already know what it is you have to offer you therefore know a little about the person who will be most likely to have an interest. By using their 'wants' and 'needs' you can compose a title or heading that will help catch their eye. Remember people are ONLY interested in something if it serves a purpose for them so keep this in mind!


Speak Benefits

Now in order to engage people it will go a little deeper than simply attracting them! Here is where they need to see why they should continue reading. The best writing strategy you can use is to present to them the benefits of what you have to offer. No doubt your features are just as awesome but this only tells folks how something works. Quite simply they do not care about the features, they are ONLY interested in how it will change their situation or lives, and it better be good! You want to keep them reading and this is the absolute BEST way to do so!

Remove the Benefits

At this point you want to use a little subtlety by reminding people of their current needs, wants or even problems. Much like reopening a wound, folks are now experiencing why it is they are even on your page, with your help of course. One of the best ways to persuade someone to take a certain action is to remind them of the consequences if they take no action at all! It is important to remember if people do not make the decision you want them to make at this point they are gone and probably forever! You have now painted a 'terrible' picture in their minds and then you close by telling them exactly what they need to do to fill their need! Just make the purchase!

The most effective sales copy typically begins by capturing the attention of others first.  As simple as this may sound many fail to do so and if you are trying to persuade someone with any copy you compose you must first engage people. The 3 tips offered above serve to simplify your writing strategy when creating any content you intend to use to persuade someone to make a purchase. The basic 'rule of thumb' is to attract and engage! Always remember is if people do not quickly see how they will benefit they will typically leave the page.
