Copy Writing for Money - Three Ways to Grab a Reader's Attention

You may well be the greatest writer anywhere in the world and the most prolific. Sadly, that is not going to get you far if no one is reading your work. In order to enhance your readership, you must seize the reader by the collar and get your content in his face. How can you do that? To find the answer, let's check out the magazine stand at the supermarket. Many of the best copy writers in America write nothing but article titles for the covers of magazines. Let's look and see how they accomplish it.

1) Expose secrets. Everyone wants to be in on a secret. You'll excite the curiosity of your reader if you have information he cannot get anywhere else. This is intensified if some mysterious "they" is working to keep your info away from your reader. Compare "Eating Too Much Sugar is Bad For You" and "What the Cereal Industry CEOs Do not Want You to know About Sugar." No one wants to hear that eating too much sugar is undesirable for you, but plenty of men and women want to know what the fat cats are keeping from them.

2) Use numbers. Folks these days do not have long attention spans. They'll take a minute to get a piece of data but they will not take twenty minutes to acquire even more info. Let them know you will not be taking much of their time. Tell them how many tips, secrets, ideas, etc. you're going provide them. Look at these titles: "Five Steps to Killer Abs," "Seven Methods to Pleasure Your Boyfriend," "Three Suggestions To Stop Your Cat From Scratching the Furniture." Can you see how they cause a reader to look further into the article while promising not to be all day about it?

3) Be dramatic. Never be afraid to scare folks. The promos for local news shows do this all the time and so do the magazines in the check out line. Use this carefully, it's possible to go over the top and a few of those local news promos do just that. But compare these two ideas. First, "Winter's Coming - Do not Forget Snow Tires," and second, "Don't Let Your Family Die in a Ditch - Do this Now!" Right after reading through the first instance he'll most likely say, "okay" and move on. But the second instance? Yikes! I really don't want my family members to die in a ditch, I want to find out more. You get the notion.

If your content articles aren't receiving the views you would like, go to the grocery store and find out from the pros. Grab the reader with a thought provoking title and increase your readership.
