How To Write Copy
The key to writing copy is to remember that it is a balance between quality and quantity, and you have to trust that the quality is intrinsic. If one is trying to write copy you just need to copy down on paper or the computer screen whatever is flowing through your mind. It is essentially a stream of consciousness, and something it seems that I have been practising for years for without knowing it. Obviously I wasn't actually practising for this, but then in turn this is in itself great practice for writing generally. I am breaking down the walls between what runs through my ind and what I can produce in the physical world, so in a sense I am getting to know my own mind much better because I am beginning to realise that whatever I am writing about, it bears a relation to my consciousness and is just a metaphor of a metaphor of a metaphor.
Some of my colleagues (naming no names) spend hours researching each topic and telling themselves that they are learning through said research rather than mining their own minds for all the words and sentences that are created by it everyday. By cleaning out my mind by writing such streams of fraff I am learning about what actually resides in the recesses of my consciousness. It means that after writing my mind is much clearer, and I begin to achieve a state of being in which I am relaxed and more aware of the world around me.
It has also helped me to talk more. Before I started doing this work I was beginning to fall deaf and dumb. I couldn't hear what people really meant and I could hardly even talk myself, and when I did I barely even knew what I really meant. I would go off on some spiel and then only realise the next day what I really meant when I was saying it. Now I am writing about subjects such as tenancy cleaner and the services provided by one particular post tenancy cleaner and because the subject is so banal I can consequently read what I really mean after.
