What is Oxidized Bitumen?
Oxidized bitumen is derived through a continuous or staggered blowing process in which high grade Bitumen is heated up to 300 degree centigrade under a controlled environment and blown with air in a chimney. It results in the oil content being removed from the Bitumen, thereby leaving it completely oxidized. Chemicals are added to reduce the blowing time and also to have better control over the blowing environment in order to produce different grades of high quality Oxidized Bitumen with very low investments.
Applications of Oxidized Bitumen
Producers of roofing materials are one of the largest consumers of bitumen after the road construction industry in many countries. There are many countries which manufacture and use bitumen felts and mastic asphalts both for domestic as well as commercial roofing and vehicle parking purposes. There are different types of bitumen used in the roofing industry. This varies from use of oxidized bitumen to other softer bitumen grades.
