MYTH #1
Using certain shades of lipstick will makeyour teeth look whiter
FACT: Yes, as strange asit may sound, this is true. If your teeth aren't exactly pearly white, use lip colors that are cool, bright and blue-based, such as pinks, plums and raspberries. Using warm, peachy and brown-based colors will make your teeth look yellow.
MYTH #2
Baking soda helps to get rid of hairstyling product build up
FACT: Yup, baking soda actually has a dual function that only a few of us know about and actually helps to get rid of the remains that hair products leave behind. Sprinkle baking soda on damp hair, comb it through and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse your hair and you should be rid of the product remains. However, baking soda can be too drying, so avoid using it if your hair is permed or colored; use a deep-cleansing shampoo instead.
MYTH #3
Moisturising your face with hair conditioner is good for you
FACT: Not true. Using a hair conditioner on your skin may be alright because it seals in moisture and keeps your skin hydrated, but some of the ingredients in the conditioner that's good for your hair may not be good for your bare skin. Don't use it, as it'll lead to acne and rashes and we don't want that, do we?
MYTH #4
Using a moisturiser on your face will make your skin oilier and cause acne
FACT: Not true, as how oily your skin is and how much acne you have depends more on genetics and hormones than what you use on your face. If you do have an acne problem, try using a moisturiser that's light and oil-free and apply it only on areas that feel dry. Using a heavy moisturiser will only clog your pores and eventually lead to more skin problems.
MYTH #5
Using nail polish weakens your nails and causes them to break
FACT: Not true. In fact, using nail polish is actually good for your nails, as nail polish acts as a shield against nail threatening activities by sealing in your nails' natural oils. As a result, nails become less brittle, and are less prone to breaking. Using a topcoat over your nail polish is best for your nails, as your nails become more flexible and grow stronger as a result.
Myth #6
Toothpaste can be used to dry up zits
FACT: Partly true. Toothpaste contains some drying properties so it might help to dry up a zit, but this isn't advisable. It will also not reduce the redness, as this is caused by inflammation and can't be gotten rid of with a dab of toothpaste. Use proper creams for zits instead.
MYTH #7
Eyelash curlers cause your lashes to fall out
FACT: Nope. If you use an eyelash curler the right way, your lashes shouldn't fall out. Just remember to use the curler before applying mascara, because the mascara can stick to the curler, causing some lashes to be pulled out by mistake. The right way to use an eyelash curler is to look straight into a mirror, hold the curler at the base of your lashes and press it down for five to 10 seconds. After doing this, gently remove the curler from your eye. You shouldn't have any problems if you use the curler in this way.
MYTH #8
Shaving your legs will make your hair grow back thicker
FACT: False. Shaving your legs - or any other part of your body - will not change the texture of your hair. If you have naturally thick hair, it will grow back thick no matter which method you use to remove it. Initially, your hair will feel thick after shaving, because shaving slices the hair off in the middle, which is the thickest part of your hair shaft. But, once it grows back, your hair texture will return to how it was before shaving.
