Choosing Skin Care Products

Anyone who is concerned about the effects of aging, sun and the environment upon their skin will usually have a personalized skin care regimen. This might include only a select brand of skin care products, or it might be a range of products from a variety of manufacturers. The primary focus, however, is an improvement in the look, tone and health of the skin.

Skin care products will always include everything from cleansers to a variety of moisturizers and targeted treatments. Such products may be specifically for the face, or they might offer body care as well. For instance, the Nivea brand provides consumers with exfoliating body washes as well as facial toners too.

Before just purchasing an entire line of skin care products, the consumer is going to have to perform a simple self-assessment of their skin type. For example, there are products targeting normal, dry, oil, combination and even sensitive skin types, and the shopper will get the finest or optimal results only after purchasing the products that will work the best for their skin.

How do you know what type of skin you have? People with normal skin tend to have infrequent occurrences of such issues as pimples, flaking or discoloring. It is important to note, however, that the description “normal” is a rare occurrence because most people still have moments where skin is not without some sort of special condition.

Those with dry body or facial skin will frequently encounter flaking and peeling and may even have periods of discomfort due to the cracking of the upper layers of their skin.

People with oily skin, however, may be prone to breakouts and need to wash their face several times a day to remove the buildup of shiny oils on their forehead, cheeks, nose and chin areas.

Those with combination skin will generally note patches of certain conditions rather than experiencing overall issues. For instance, the person with combination skin might have peeling or flaking around their nose, but oily buildup on their chin or forehead.

Finally, people with sensitive skin will usually have strong reactions to skin care products containing strong or harsh ingredients. Alcohol is one of the most common culprits to affect sensitive skin. Simply reading the ingredients lists of many products will provide a clear indication of whether or not they are likely to cause a reaction.

The best skin care products will be safe to use on a daily basis, and most regimens include washing, toning, moisturizing and protecting from the sun or weather.
