Joop Perfume, a short history

The brand JOOP! synonymous now fresh fruity floral perfumes started its life as a Couture fashion house.

Before the fashion house was founded however its original creator Wolfgang Joop studied advertising Psychology and went onto win various fashion prizes with his wife Karin. In 1978 Joop was honoured in the New York Times, which marked the start of his worldwide acclaim and the founding of the JOOP! fashion house.

Within 3 years of winning international acclaim Wolfgang Joop's fashion house had been formed and was instantly recognisable by its provocative clothing collections and more unusually its award winning fragrances.

By 1985 Wolfgang Joop had transformed himself into a household name, altering the fashion houses appeal by rebranding its name with capital letters and an exclamation point. This created the JOOP! logo we know now and was designed to symbolise energy.

The JOOP! fashion house grew throughout the 1980's to the extent it had a prêt-a-porter line for both women and men, shoes, jewellery, eyeglasses as well as an entire array of perfume.

As a result of their far-reaching product lines the JOOP! label became available for licence and by the early 1990's JOOP! no longer created any of their own products.

In 1991 JOOP Parfum was acquired by the Coty/Lancaster perfume group where it has since thrived producing some of the brands most memorable fragrances.

Under Coty Prestige JOOP! has created JOOP pour homme, JOOP Jump, along with JOOP thrill for men and women; with the most recent addition to their product line being named simply Wolfgang Joop.
