Portland Latisse Therapy

Great eyelashes, every woman wants them, but they don't just happen over night. There is however, hope! Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) is 0.03% topical solution that has been shown to make lashes grow thicker, longer and darker. It is a gradual therapy that takes about 16 weeks to achieve full results. Latisse is applied nightly with an applicator to the upper eye lid only. Once you begin treatment you must continue to use Latisse if you wish to see continued results. If you were to stop the Latisse treatments, then your lashes would slowly revert back to the state they were in before you began therapy. According to the most recent studies, Latisse user experienced around a 25% increase in the length of their lashes. They also had an increase in the thickness and fullness of their lashes by about 106% and an 18% increase in the darkness of the eyelashes. Best result are usually achieved within 16 weeks.

Hypotrichosis (hy·po·tri·chot·ic) is defined as the presence of less than a normal amount of hair on the head. In relation to they eyes, it is having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Latisse for use as a treatment for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes in late 2008. Latisse is a re-brand of the popular Glaucoma treatment called Lumigan. While Lumigan is an eye drop, Latisse is applied daily to only the upper eyelash area. Allergan, the company that makes both Lumigan and Latisse, has used bimatoprost since 2001 in its prescription eye drop treatment that helps to lower eye pressure in people with glaucoma. There are thousands of individuals who have been enjoying longer, thicker and darker eyelashes. Latisse is only available as a prescription treatment and individuals must first the advice of a medical doctor to see if they are candidates that could benefit from the use of Latisse.

Like the hair on your head, eyelashes sprout, go through a growth phase and then eventually fall out. Latisse both extends the growth phase and it also increases the number of hairs that sprout. After about two months of nightly use, you should begin to see results. After three or four months, you should reach your desired eyelash length goal and your doctor may recommend that you cut back your treatment schedule to every couple days. Latisse is applied by dabbing it on the upper lash line each night with the supplied sterile applicators. The drug spreads to your lower lash line automatically as you blink. It is important to always discard each applicator after just one use. Re-using applicators, even once, can cause serious health problems, such as an eye infection or allergic reaction. So apply it carefully, since Latisse has been known to promote hair growth on other skin areas.

Even though the FDA has approved Latisse for public consumption, it is still a drug and as with any drug there can be side-effects. You may not be a candidate for Portland Latisse Therapy if you have certain eye problems (such as uveitis and conjunctivitis), risk for macular edema, severe allergies or skin infections of the upper eyelids. Pregnant women shouldn't use it, and nursing women may want to wait as well. Some people have reported a darkening of the skin around the eyes as well as dry eyes and itchy eyes. Allergan, the company that produces Latisse, has shown reports that permanent brown pigmentation of the iris may be a potential side effect, but this type of condition was not reported during the clinical studies. Such an eye color change could be an important drawback for some people, though color contact lenses could be one solution.
