You'll probably want to do further reading and of course the internet is a good place to start. Many craft book authors have already benefited from the advice available from Writing Craft Books so it's a great place to start. Crafters just like you are already enjoying the rewards - why not you?
Writing craft books can be extremely satisfying personally and very rewarding financially, but it doesn't stop there. There are spin-offs that can benefit your overall craft business as well.
Some people have a burning desire to share their craft knowledge, which is a great reason to get a craft book published. Others are more driven by the potential profits. Nothing wrong with that, that's business. Whichever camp you fall into, if you're undecided about whether it might be worth the effort, there are a couple of other bonuses you should take into consideration.
Most people will know about the residual income effect, what is often called royalties. Writing craft books takes effort at the outset but once they're published - whether digitally or traditionally - there's little more to do except for perhaps some promotional work. However, you'll be paid for your work for years and years into the future. If you find a traditional craft book publisher you'll probably be looking at about 10% of every book sold. If you self-publish digitally that could be as high as 80% or more, and unless the book is withdrawn, that income never stops. Not ever.
One of the spin-offs I mentioned can be an increase your craft business income, because once you're published you are automatically an "expert".
Think about it. If you pick up a craft book you assume that person is an expert - otherwise, how would they have gotten published? The same thing is going to happen for you. Your crafts can now command a higher price.
There are other side effects. It's likely you'll get more commission work - always a good income generator because of its unique nature. You might be asked to attend events or speak to craft groups. Often just your expenses are covered, sometimes there are substantial speaking fees paid to you. Either way you get the opportunity to present your crafts to an ever-broader group of people.
Writing craft books isn't difficult and with little more than your computer and some free software you can self-publish too. Every crafts person should consider it. The long-term rewards can be huge!
