The credit crunch that has swept across the UK as well as other global destinations has resulted in a range of damaging effects, affecting most areas of the finance industry and leaving a trail of chaos behind. Industry officials have stated that the effects of the credit crunch are likely to worsen over the course of this year, and amongst other things this means that those looking for finance in the form of credit cards or loans may experience severe difficulties because of the increased stringency being exercised by lenders across the UK.

Most of us need finance for one thing or another at some point, whether it is for home improvements, consolidating debts, treating ourselves to something luxurious such as a holiday or car, or simply for day to day use such as a credit card. However, as lenders continue to increase their stringency with regards to who can take out finance consumers will find it increasingly difficult to get the finance that they want or need. This is why it is important for anyone that is looking at taking finance out to get themselves sorted before the credit crunch bites even further.

You may be looking to take out a credit card, such as a 0% balance transfer credit card, in order to get rid of high interest balances of existing cards. You may be thinking about taking out a secured loan against your home to make the most of your equity and perhaps improve the home. Perhaps you are looking to take out a consolidation loan to pay off your existing credit and cut down on the amount that you pay out each month. Or maybe you are thinking about taking a personal loan to pay for your summer holiday. Whatever type of finance you are considering you should act quickly to avoid disappointment.

The effects of the credit crunch do not mean that nobody will be able to get credit, as most lenders will still be willing to give credit to those with a decent credit history. However, it may mean that those who would probably have been able to get credit pretty easily this time last year, such as people with slightly damaged credit, may find it more difficult to get a competitive deal on finance.

Of course, it is also important that you do not rush into taking out finance – there is no need to go for expensive, high interest finance through fear that it might be the only offer you get. Make sure that you still compare different loans, cards, etc. in order to find the most competitive deals, but also be aware that it may not be as easy as it was in the past to get finance as the credit crunch continues to take effect across the UK.
