People in Massachusetts are no less prone to debt and credit problems than people elsewhere in the United States. The cost of living in the state adds to the debt that the average resident carries. If you live in Massachusetts and find yourself in this situation, you are not alone. There is help available.
If you have mounting credit card debt, you would benefit from speaking with an accredited credit counselor. A counselor can help you analyze your debt, develop a working budget, and consider the various options you have available. Getting out of debt can also be confusing, and a credit counselor is the right kind of person to have on your side.
That said, not every credit counselor is alike. You will want to check out the organization providing credit counseling. Are they non-profit? Do they have a good standing with the Better Business Bureau? Is your credit counselor accredited? How much experience does he/she have?
Just like you are being cautious about who you choose as a credit counselor, be wary of any loans or programs you hear about. You will want to make sure you fully understand the product before agreeing to it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions until you are confident you are making the right choice. As important as it is to seek debt help, it does you no good if you end up with a bad deal or in a contract with a corrupt company.
If you are in Massachusetts, there is debt help available to you. Take advantage of the reputable, non-profit counselors that serve Massachusetts.
