Prepaid Debit Card or Credit Card: A Card-oholic’s Best Friend

People who do not like to bring cash with them while shopping or simply because they do not have extra cash to spend would really appreciate the convenience of a prepaid debit card or a credit card. It is only a matter of looking into what these cards can do for you to be able to decide which is more beneficial.

For people who want to control their spending, they normally choose a prepaid debit card. The debit card can be used in most transactions just like a credit card. The only difference is that you put money in your account ahead of time, just like a savings account. And when you use it to purchase something, the amount will be deducted from your account. But unlike a credit card where you are given a limit based on your capability to pay, the only limit you will have is the amount loaded into the card. It is easy to get a prepaid debit card even if you have bad credit background.

A credit card has two types: secured credit card and unsecured credit card. A secured credit card, just like the prepaid debit card, has money loaded onto it. If you load $500 into savings account, you will be eligible to a card with a $500 limit. Unlike the prepaid card where the amount of your purchases is automatically deducted, this card will allow you to make payments on specified times. But when you fail to make payments, they will just withdraw from that account the amount you owe. If you opt to close the account or have it converted to an unsecured card, you can get your money back including the interest. This card reports to the credit bureaus and can assist you in improving your credit score.

An unsecured credit card, on the other hand, does not require a deposit. This type of card is advantageous for people who have good credit because you can find offers with low rates. For those with bad credit scores, the card could include a lot of fees and will affect credit limit until all fees are totally paid. You will benefit more with the secured credit card because the fees are more affordable. You will not be able to get a refund from the fees from an unsecured card though, and you will have to deal with the interest as well.
