Browse Criminal Records Online

If you are in the lookout for a convenient and practical way of searching for criminal records without having to drive around looking for the exact precinct or courthouse where the record may be stored, then your search can be shortened with the introduction of several websites hosting public record search. Although the use of this particular service is still under legislation in some states, others have made some public records available online. This is for the purpose of giving the public a chance to easily search for records which they may need as a reference or requirement in some business dealings.

There are some online public databanks which a person can use when performing a search about a particular record, may it be a criminal record or an inmate search. For example, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has an official website which provides a free inmate locator service which allows a person to browse for possible inmates they knew. There are also several non - government organization offering this particular service to the public via the internet. There are websites that offer a search engine for sex offenders who have been released and have now rejoined the society. A person can also search separately for inmates’ records, arrest record, court records, and other public documents which are allowed by the law to be made publicly accessible.

Some states have an implementing rule of restriction when it comes to criminal records search and an individual performing a search must have to obtain the person in question’s birth date and social security number before being allowed to obtain a record on the said person. There are instances wherein an employer would perform a background check but the law requires them to have signed release or permit from the person in question authorizing the employer to conduct the search and obtain the record for them. The person in question also has the right to obtain and have a copy of any public records the employer may gather in the process.

You also have to consider the fact that these particular services are not related or in connection with any government agencies or accredited government search service providers. Information gathered on these sites still has to be double checked to ensure veracity and accuracy of information. Although most of the records here are legitimate, more often, some records are not regularly updated and what you may have is an old record excluding the revisions in the case or the dismissal order form the court.

Another way of searching for criminal records online is using the fee - based public record search provider which would generally require a person to sign up for membership. This particular website would often require a nominal amount of search fee depending on the type of record and how hard it may be for an individual to perform a manual search. Costs may differ based on how comprehensive the report maybe and the quality of the websites databank which depend on the accuracy and veracity of the website. Some of this online databanks are established by the state itself while some have the capacity to provide a nationwide search service for a certain amount of annual fee.
