Medical malpractice is the act by which a doctor provides medical attention at very low standards. Due to the poor medical attention provided the patient is put into more pain. Therefore whenever you are not well and you go to a doctor it is of utmost importance that you find out about the background history of the doctor. The doctor should be certified by the proper governing body. There is also a kind of insurance for this. It is called medical malpractice insurance. So if anything bad happens and the doctor is sued the insurance will cover it.
Most people do not realize the importance of history check. They think that if the doctor has malpractice insurance then he is a good doctor. Just because he has insurance does not mean that he is a good doctor. It is a person's life that is at stake here. Just because of his negligence a person could lose his life easily and no amount of compensation can bring back a person's life. Therefore before anybody goes to a doctor they should first check for his malpractices occasions i.e. the number of times the doctor has been involved in a malpractice. Then the next thing they should check for is the malpractice insurance.
The other important thing which has to be checked is the license of the doctor. There are some fraudulent doctors who tend to practice medicine even after their license is barred. We need to make sure that the license of the doctor is not barred. It is considered illegal to practice medicine after your license is barred. Some of the things that can be done are to check the license of the doctor with a medical board. Once that is done the next thing to do is to find out the list of all he complaints registered against the doctor and the nature of complaints. Along with these any other public records which can give information about any case filed against the doctor should be collected. Later all these information should be consolidated to get an idea about the doctor.
There are many web sites which offer this service for free. They maintain a database about all the doctors. This database tells how many times a doctor has been sued or how many times his license has been barred. This data base is periodically updated with some help from the local licensing body and the governing body for medical practices.
