During my experience, working on Carnival Cruise Lines, many people asked me "How did you get that job?" My reply, "It's easier than you think".
Even though things have changed a bit since I first was hired on, I still know the route to go. Each Cruise Line has a website. On the website, if you look hard enough, you will see a link to job listings. On Carnival it's called "Fun Jobs".
When you get to the link you will see there are many jobs available. How do you know which one to pick? Here is a little insider tip for you, there are two types of jobs, one is Crew the other is Staff.
Crew positions serve the guests. Crew generally are there to make money by working long hard hours, and they do not get the priviledges that Staff do. Like being able to go into passenger areas during off time. Crew are only allowed in passenger areas when they are working. When they are off work they remain in their cabin or crew areas, such as the dining area or crew bar. They might get an afternoon or a couple of hours out on port, depending on their job. Most of these positions are taken by citizens of Asia, eastern Europe, etc.
Staff positions entertain the guests. Since Staff work less hours and make less money, they get to go into port and spend time seeing the sights. They are also allowed in guest passenger areas and are able to take advantage of the discos and shows. These jobs tend to be taken by citizens of Canada, U.S., U.K,etc.
Once you have picked out the position you want, you will need to gear up your resume for it. Include all job references that relate to the position your applying for. Once you have the resume and references ready, cut and paste it into the job application form.
Now the key here, is determination, you should do this everyday. That will show them that you are serious and this technique, as I've heard, has worked extremely well for applicants in the past.
