Beaches are the ideal location for a holiday. Sun, sand and surf create a heady cocktail that gets you relaxed and rejuvenated at the same time. Tropical islands make some of the hottest beach holiday destinations and among these the Bahamas are on everyone's list. Its 29 islands offer never-ending adventures, sights, experiences and romance for holiday-goers. What might be the best way of exploring the beauty of such a place? A private chartered yacht.

Although not for everyone's budget, a chartered yacht is the most avant-garde (and also very practical) way of experiencing the Bahamas. The Bahamas is actually an archipelago i.e. a group of small islands scattered over a distance. To be precise it has 29 islands, 661 cays and 2,387 islets, each of which has its own natural beauty and cultural heritage, and not to mention miles and miles of crystal clear blue waters. Now if you wanted to experience all of this in the comfort of a five star hotel– a Bahamas yacht charter makes perfect sense.

Nassau, on the New Providence Island is Bahamas' capital and also a very popular tourist centre. The Bay Street offers a great selection of pubs, clubs and restaurants and the harbour is the perfect place to start your cruise from. You could explore the neighbouring Paradise Island, or the Blue Lagoon Island, where you can get up close with friendly dolphins and other sea mammals. From Nassau, you can sail to the Exuma Islands, which is known for its many pristine cays and the huge Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. You can sail to the famous Staniel Cay, (known for the Staniel Cay Yacht Club), Highborne Cay or Fowl Cay before you anchor in Georgetown in Great Exuma, which offers a great selection of traditional Bahamian restaurants, beach bars and pubs.

From The Exumas, you might want to head towards Andros Islands, home to the third largest reef in the world and other such mesmerising natural wonders. A mile-deep abyss called the Tongue of the Ocean lies off its coast and is where you can go to spot whales, dolphins and other reef creatures. Andros also has underwater caves that surface as ‘Blue Holes' around the island and wetlands laced with mangroves which intercut to create bonefish flats and beaches. These fascinating formations make Andros the ideal destination for snorkelling, deep sea diving, hiking, bird watching, fishing and enjoying a truly lazy holiday.

From the ‘wild outdoors' of the Andros, you can head to the Grand Bahama Island which brings you back to the other good things in life, mainly, great dining, nightlife, resorts and five-star hotels, casinos and clubs, shopping and historic marvels. The city of Freeport is the main commercial harbour and airport and makes the best place to end your cruise. However, if you wanted a little more before you leave you could sail around the islands of Bimini which is known for its rich and varied marine life thanks to the Gulf Stream and the its ponds of lithium and sulphur called ‘Healing Holes'. Being as close as it is to the US, it is still very laidback, and offers you the chance of spending your last few days docking in the harbour, swimming, snorkelling, fishing and indulging in some local rum.

The Bahamas Islands are truly a paradise, and are well worth a visit, with or without a yacht. However, having a private chartered yacht to your disposal makes discovering the beauty of this island hidden in its cays and islets so much more luxurious. The Bahamas is a place where time stops, and with a yacht you can take all the time you want.
