Why take a Nile Cruise?

If, like me, you spend a lot of time on the
Internet you will often read articles with headings such as "My Top 10 Travel Destinations", or "50 Things To Do Before I Die". More often than not somewhere in there will be the following..."To Take a Nile Cruise".

Why is it that so many people are fascinated by the imagery, history and mystery of Ancient Egypt?

Is it because it's one of the oldest civilisations in the world? Or because we have heard so much about the "boy king" Tutankhamun and seen so many images and artifacts from his tomb in the Valley Of The Kings? Perhaps we have simply been fascinated since childhood by the images of the Sphinx or the Pyramids? Baffled by just what Egyptian hyroglyphics mean? Caught up in the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt?

Or is it that the very "sound" of the phrase "a Nile Cruise" conjures up images of Alexander The Great, Julius Ceasar, Napoleon, Kitchener and Montogomery? All came to Egypt.

Cleopatra and Florence Nightingale were also here and Verdi composed and conducted Aida at the opening celebrations of the Suez canal in 1869

Or do the very names of the cities of Egypt such as Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan have a ring of history and tradition tracing human civilisation for over 5000 years?

What of the mighty River Nile itself? The world's second longest river has shaped the character of the country and its' people over the ages. It was the place where they first used the first tape to mark land claims and called the process Geometry and where they invented the solar calender of 12 months of thirty days. Indeed the first recorded date in world history, 4241 BC, is Egyptian.

4241 BC!!! Can you comprehend that date and how long ago it was?

In the 19th century it became fashionable for aristocrats from Europe to visit Egypt and they would cruise on their "dahabiyyas" - beautiful Arab sailing boats. You can still book a wonderful Nile cruise on a dahabiyya today by the way.

Today the Upper Nile is one of the world's most visited destinations but it is a wonderous place to visit and a cruise will allow you to enjoy a journey of discovery and visit some of Egypt's finest ancient monuments along the banks of the Nile including those at Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan, The Valley Of The Kings and The Valley Of The Queens at Luxor.

So much to see, so much to experience, such a luxurious way to do it.

A Nile Cruise really is so much more than a conventional holiday.

The Old Testament Verses from 1-10 says that there was a famine; Joseph's brothers took Benjamin with them to get corn from Egypt! The New Testament Verses from 1-10 says that the chief Jewish priests bound Jesus and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. They delivered Jesus (for envy) to be crucified. Canada travel on U.S immigrant (CR1) visa, but no plastic green card!
By: Loto | 18-07-2008
My wife entered the U.S on immigrant visa (CR1) in July 2008 and her immigrant visa is valid for 6 months until Jan 2009. I am the U.S citizen. We are travelling to Canada next weekend. She has not yet received her plastic green card. Is it ok to travel to Canada with her using her immigrant visa stamped on her passport and come back to the U.S without any issues ? Her passport is valid for many years. There is no I-551 stamp on her passport, other than the arrival stamp at the U.S POE. Please advise, thanks!

From Maun (Botswana) to Pemba (Mozambique)
By: gkamin | 16-07-2008
Hi, I'm interested in planning my trip from Maun to Pemba (northern Mozambique) mid-October this year.   I've been told that the easiest way is to get from Maun to Johannesburg (by flight) and then take another flight from Johannesburg to Pemba. How much should this cost? Does anyone have information on Johannesburg-Pemba-Johannesburg flight prices?   I'm pretty sure that there's a much cheaper (although longer) way.   Has anyone tried traveling by land through Zambia (I'd rather not go through Zimbabwe) to northern Mozambique?   How long should it take counting only on public transportation (bus/train)? Is it possible to do this route in about 4 days? Is it possible to plan the stops in a way that will permit me to spend at least 2-3 nights in a bed and not on a bus? Are most of the buses in the area air-conditioned?   Someone told me that there's no problem in getting from Maun to Lusaka, and from there to the border with Mozambique, but that I'll meet most of my problems getting from the Mozambique border to Pemba. Somehow, that doesn't make much sense to me, but I'd really love to learn from someone else's experience.   Thanks
