Is The Pursuit Of Rationalism Really Rational?

Posted: Jun 20, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

It has been discovered that in the United States, when a person graduates from high school, the left side of the brain weighs slightly more than the right side. How is that for a culture out of balance, a culture which has worshiped at the throne of rationalism so long that it has caused an internal imbalance in the brain that is so great that it can be weighted and measured?

We werent always like this.

From the Garden of Eden this was not so. There were two lifestyles available to Adam and Eve, one represented by the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil" and the other by the "Tree of Life." The tree of knowledge of good and evil, of course, was forbidden. However, satan tempted Eve, saying, "If you eat of it... you shall be as God, knowing good and evil" (Gen. 3:6).

In other words, rather than live out of the Tree of Life, where Jesus would be the vine, I would be a branch (Jn. 15) and the Holy Spirit would grant a creative "flow" of sap within as I abide in Jesus (Jn. 7:37-39), Satan tempted mankind to live out of a different place, internally. Rather than live out of the flow (i.e. the river of God within), satan tempted man to live out of his mind - to determine for himself through knowledge what was good and what was evil.

Who needs Gods river to make intelligent determinations? I have a mind. I am supposed to use it. I can figure out truth all by myself. That was the lie of the Garden of Eden. That is the lie still being perpetrated by so much of the world today.

However, Gods Word is clear.

"Lean NOT to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him." - Proverbs 3:5

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." - Isaiah 55:9

Man, in himself, does not have enough wisdom or creativity or insight to make truly wise decisions. Man was designed to come to the river of God, and to live out of the flow of God within him. This river gives Divine perspective, Divine wisdom, and Divine creativity. We must renounce rationalism - the tree of knowledge of good and evil - and return to the tree of life - Christian spirituality - where we experience and honor flowing ideas and pictures within us.

Ill continue to examine this idea of rational, left-brained education vs. whole-brained education in additional articles Ill be releasing. Look for the article, "Western Education: Greek versus Hebrew Educational Style."

A great deal has been made of in alternative archaeology books about how and why our technologically primitive ancestors were able to carve out, transport and erect massive multi-ton stone blocks into megalithic monuments. Since there is no doubting the existence of these structures, our ancestors must of in fact possessed an advanced technology or had assistance from those who did (i.e. – ‘ancient astronauts'). That runs contrary to scholarly archaeology. But the questions remain.
