We could probably assume that most people understand that drinking and driving is wrong. However, sometimes there is a huge disparity between what people know and how they act. When it comes to drunk driving, people still continue to put themselves and other drivers at risk when they get behind the wheel after a few drinks.
We often hear the excuses, "I only had a couple beers" or "I'm just driving down the street". Even if you've had just a "couple" drinks, it does not mean that the alcohol hasn't affected your body in any way. Everyone is unique and the way your body processes alcohol may be different from someone else. For example, a petite woman drinking two alcoholic beverages may process alcohol differently than a 6'5" man weighing 225 pounds.
If you'd like to save yourself the stress and heartache of being arrested for a DUI, follow these tips:
- The 100% guaranteed way to prevent a DUI arrest is to simply not get behind the wheel in the first place.
- If you feel that you must drink, make plans for someone to pick you up, assign a designated driver, or take a taxi home.
- If you go to a friend's house to drink, give someone who isn't drinking your keys so you're not even tempted to get in your car.
Sure, making arrangements may seem like a hassle, but if you really consider the costs and consequences of drunk driving, it is certainly worth it, isn't it?
