How to Select the Right Forex Trading Mentor If You Are a New Trader

Learning to trade the forex can be an exciting experience as well as potentially very profitable. Having an experienced forex trading mentor can help you learn and shorten the learning curve. But the key is to find a mentor who will help you focus on the right areas as a beginning trader.

There are a lot of mentoring programs and online courses that you can take. These will teach you about the forex and usually about different trading indicators and systems. These programs can sometimes cost hundreds of dollars and with some even thousands. As a new trader you really don't need to spend that much money to learn about the forex and how to trade. Most of this information you can get free.

Most of what is called mentoring will involve live webinars and chat or forum support in a group setting. These can be useful although you are not going to get the one on one type of mentoring experience that you would get if you could get if you were working directly with someone you know or hired. The advantage of one on one mentoring is the mentor can focus on you and be there to give instant feedback and keep you pointed in the right direction.

As a beginning trader whatever type of mentoring you chose it's very important that they put most of the focus in the beginning on you learning to be a skilled trader. Most new traders make the mistake of focusing on trying to learn the perfect trading system. But the best system out there will not do you a bit of good if you don't first learn to be a consistent and disciplined trader.

It's common for traders to spend their entire trading careers jumping from one trading system to another in search of the one that will make them money. But since they never took the time to learn the discipline of being a good consistent trader they never have success with any system they try.

Until you develop that consistency you should stick to trading a demo instead of using real money. Choose a system you like and just practice trading it on a demo account. It could take months if not years to get good at being consistent and keeping your emotions out of your trading decisions.
