Communications Cycle

Communications Cycle

Almost everyone of us associated with the call center industry has come accross the term 'Communications'. We all know that this is the method used to convey messages from one party to another (i.e. from a boss to an agent, e.t.c.) But what we are going to see today is how exactly it works, the model of communication.

Communication cycle gives us a clear idea of how exactly the method works. So, let's look at the components first. The starting and the ending point is the same in a communications cycle, which is the 'Sender'. The Sender is the person who originates the message that has to be conveyed. The second component will be the message iteself because without it there is no point of the communications cycle. The third part will be the medium or the platform at which the message is transmitted. And the fourth part is the final one which is the 'Receiver'.

Now that we know the basic components of the communications cycle. Let's get a little deeper and see how exactly it works. The cycle starts at the sender (as mentioned before) he generates a message and then encodes it so that it is suitable for the medium that it is going to be transmitted through. The receiver recieves the message as encoded, so he has to decode the message n understand it and then he in turn sends a feedback to the sender to let him know that his message was received and understood.

After we understand the working of the communications cycle, do you have a question in mind? If you are thinking what is this medium that I am talking about? or what is this encoding and decoding? Here are some answers:

Medium - This is the method that is chosen primarily by the sender in most cases to convey the message to the receiver. This can be telephone, Email, Blog, Speaking face to face and e.t.c.

Encoding - Different Mediums require different methods to send the message accross, for example if you want to send a message through an email you can't just speak the message loud and think it will be transmitted, it has to be typed. The method u chose to transmit the message is encoding. Decoding is just the same.
