Energy Deregulation and You

Energy deregulation allows a state or portion of a state, such as a city, and the people in it, to choose their own company they want to supply them with electricity. It’s sort of like the phone company, it’s the same lines of electricity, and you now have a choice as to who sells you what’s in the lines. This will save thousands of people hundreds of dollars on their energy bill every month because competition is the best thing for lowering prices. And consumers now have a choice in where there money is going.

A few common sense tips to save on you energy bill: ask you energy provider for a level payment plan. This means you will pay the same amount, based on previous energy usage and predicted usage, each month so there are no surprises. Then at the end of a 12-month period, you will either owe a difference if you used more energy than predicted or get a refund if you used less. Turn on your ceiling fan, reverse the direction because heat rises and this will help to bring the heat back down to where you are. Using your ceiling fan can shave about $10 off you heating bill. Keep warm air in by insulating your house, through doors and windows. Much of the warm air we have is seeping out through cracks in the widow and door frames. Simple insulations can prevent this and save the warm air for you. And change your furnace filter. If the air can’t flow through properly, then it can’t heat your house. For every degree you dial down on the thermostat, you save 1 to 3 percent on your heating bill.

Another way to save on your electric bill, if you have the money and the space, because it makes good economical and ecological sense, is to purchase a wind turbine to help produce energy for your home. During the past year, more than 7,000 Americans purchased the windmills to help with their power bills and that is up by nearly 25 percent since 1990. And you don’t have to own a sprawling farm to own a wind turbine. If you have an acre of land and the wind resources to make it function, you will be able to help with your electric bill.

Renewable energy has been an issue for many communities around the world and it’s something that must be addresses by the big businesses. What companies don’t realize is that it’s cheaper to save fuel than to buy fuel. Businesses should realize that the energy movement is profitable. The communities and the businesses must come together to make a dent in the global process. Jobs are one of the benefits of going green, ‘green collar jobs’ to be precise. One of the myths to a business going green is that they need a global agreement with someone or another company to implement a ‘green’ policy. This is not true; they just need power their way to the top and do it!

And there were times back then that I was so scared that I would never see a customer walk through the door.
