Error message that reads: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
When you try to convert your file system of hard disk from FAT 32 to NTFS, you use 'convert drive: /fs:ntfs' command in the command prompt. After you use the command, the computer completes the conversion. When you restart your computer after completion of the conversion, you may recieve the error message that reads:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys "
After you recieve this error message, you are unable to start your system. This is a pure case of data loss as the data in your system are now inaccessible. To bring back your system to the working condition, you will have to replace the Ntfs.sys file and recover the inaccessible data from an updataed backup. cd \windows\system32\drivers
ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old

Type the following command in the command prompt and press ENTER: copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers
Here, 'cd' represents the drive letter for CD-ROM drive that has the Windows XP CD and 'drive' represents the drive in which the Windows XP is installed

Type 'quit' in the command prompt after removing the Windows XP CD from the drive. Press ENTER to exit from the 'Recovery Console'

Restart the computer
Even after performing the above procedure, you may still recieve the error message. In such condition you may require to reinstall the operating system and recover the data from an updated backup.
