How Soon is Now? The Importance of Speed in File Recovery

Your missing data must be brought back as soon as possible. True, a prompt file restore is convenient  if the lost files are particularly time sensitive or meaningful. But there is another aspect to consider.

When you install new software, surf the web, rearrange files, or save documents, your lost data and files are nearer to becoming written over and annihilated. The same is also true for SD memory cards and all flash memory.

To understand why, it's necessary learn the basics of how your PC saves and deletes data. When you place a file on your computer, for example, a picture, the digital information which makes up the photo is recorded on your hard drive. At the same time, your computer creates filenames, icons, folders, and other ways for you to access that file. So, although the computer may record the photo as complicated digital information, you simply see it as photo.jpg. This is true for all kinds of files -  -these are all recorded in binary code, then transformed to the file you can listen to, watch, write, etc.

That is how files are created and accessed. But what about when they are deleted?

If you were to delete a file, either accidentally or through system error, the file icon would no longer be available. Anyone who has a computer knows this - what would be the point of removing data if it persisted?

Interestingly, this is just what happens - the information lingers. When you delete a file, you erase all apparent traces of it: filename, icon etc. But, the file information is still on your computer, unseen and hiding on the platters that make up the hard disk.

The erased file information is completely overlooked by your PC. Your system acts like the location with your erased file data as devoid of information. However, the information will stay on your hard drive (or memory card) until you save or create new information over top of it. When new file information is put on your computer, there must be room for it. The saved information might just go over top of the data you want. After data on the hard drive is saved over top of, the lost file is gone forever.

With this risk, you must not dawdle when you recover your files.

You can't predict when your file will be written over. Any time you download software, or record some new information, the risk of your deleted file being destroyed forever is exacerbated. It could be be due to happen any minute. The earlier you install a high-quality data recovery program and bring back your lost file information, the better your odds of a successful recovery.
