"I Forgot My Windows Password" – 4 Techniques to Log-on to Windows, Even with a Lost Password!

Posted: Sep 21, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

"I forgot my Windows password" is a problem that many people are having these days. Even though it's the most important password a computer owner can have, many people really do forget it. They feel helpless and think that the only solution is to reinstall Windows altogether. All of their files are deleted as a result of the OS installation.

Fortunately, you don't have to do this. If you've lost your administrative password, there are ways that you can get it back without having to reinstall everything.

Instead of complaining or reinstalling, you can try these methods:

"I forgot my Windows password" Tip #1:

If you have Windows XP, you might be able to login as the Administrator without having to enter a password. At the Windows Welcome page, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice, and you'll be taken to a Logon menu. In the username box, type in Administrator, and leave the password box blank. Click on OK to see if you'll be taken to Windows.

"I forgot my Windows password" Tip #2:

Don't forget about case sensitivity. Vista and 7 are pretty case sensitive. Make a list of passwords that you usually use and try typing them in various ways. If your password is usually your name, for instance, try it with caps, without caps, beginning with a caps, etc. Sometimes password recovery is as simple as turning on the caps lock key!

"I forgot my Windows password" Tip #3

Do a system restore at boot. This is a helpful solution for the following scenarios:

·    You set a new password, but only remember the old one.
·    Windows, for whatever reason, doesn't accept your password because it says your "system is corrupted".
·    You either changed an administrator account to a standard user account, or deleted the administrator account.

"I forgot my Windows password" Tip #4

Use a third party software to help you create a new password so that you can logon. With the right software, you can create a bootable CD or USB that copies all of your files. When you boot your system, the program will detect the Windows users on your system and reset the password(s).

When choosing software, make sure you select a program that is compatible with your version of Windows. You can download the program onto a disc and insert it into the PC with the forgotten password. Password Resetter is a good program, because it's designed to help computer users of all levels. Even if you don't know much about computers at all, you should be able to run it successfully.

Now that you have a few ideas on how to get your password back, you won't have to resort to reformatting everything!
