Keeping Track of Your Data in the Age of the Hard Drive

Posted: Jan 29, 2012 |Comments: 0 |

If the issue of data back-up policy hasn't been settled your enterprise may experience error messages and other symptoms of hard drive failure where some data is out of reach. The operating system may not be working or you may experience difficultly booting up. The hard drive may be clicking or making other unusual noises indicating a hardware problem. You must exercise caution for you may only get a couple chances to recover your data.

Hard drives are basically predictable: 100% of them will fail at some point because of built-in obsolescence. Future sales of new units and replacement parts would be impossible if you were given a hard drive that lasts a century. No, we get 3 or 4 years use out of a hard drive, and then it's time to go shopping for the latest model or replacement part.

You may diagnose your hard drive problem as a fried circuit board from a power surge or lightning strike. The solution is fairly straightforward; get a replacement part and the correct tools to install it, namely a torque 6 or torque 7 screwdriver for the correct pressure. A replacement circuit board is easier to locate online than a replacement hard drive, as hard drives have unique elements and are never truly a perfect copy of another.

Once the new circuit board is on correctly your computer should start working again. If that diagnosis was incorrect then the heads may be shot. A trickier repair job may be called for, and at this point I would definitely turn it over to a hard drive recovery serviceif my unprocessed orders were worth more than $200 to make sure someone I have to look at everyday isn't the one to ring the death knell of the old desktop I was going to throw out next month.

The data recovery expertsmay try a 'head swap' with a very similar part, which would involve taking the hard drive apart in a 'clean room' free of dust. Hard drives are not hermetically sealed - air pressure has to adjust or altitude would cause a problem - but they are fairly tight to keep out dust and moisture. Hard drives weren't designed to be taken apart by the layman.

You may have an IT professional on staff just arrived in the country who is overqualified and could swap the heads on a hard drive in his sleep so you might want to get the most for the paycheck and have him try it. He'll need to go online and find a matching part, preferably from the same week, if the operation is to be a success. These can be found on e-Bay or manufacturer websites.

Data recovery firms are inexpensive and they have the tools necessary to take the drives apart and put them back together. It's wise to use a professional service for the best odds at getting your data back; you'll have some peace of mind and a receipt for your taxes saying: "Recovery hard disk" as a souvenir of the day when everything went right in the end.

Computer equipment lasts only a few years before something is ready to give out; if problems occur they can affect the magnetic field and data can become lost or inaccessible. If the data is important an attempt must be made to get it back. Fortunately experts are there to help and in most cases it's a near-certainty that your information will be returned largely intact within a short period of time. Four-fifths of Internet searches go down on Google so it makes sense to exploit their valuable .tel suffix. The .tel suffix was instituted to designate a formatted template site designed for smart phone searches so that searchers can phone you with one hand. More whole domain websites in your online marketing are good to boost your linking system; an official website is five pages or more and .tel websites can be built to multiple pages easily. Unique content should go onto each page.

These days it's better to use an easy-to-remember keyword phrase than a branding word when choosing a domain name. In 1984 the Domain Name System came into existence to replace the Internet Protocol address (numbers resembling; 123.45.678.90) used to locate documents on the Internet - how prophetic and Orwellian that we would give proper names to our numbers. Dot com domains began on March 15, 1985 with the creation of "symbolics.com" followed on April 24 with "bbn.com" then "think.com May 24.
