The data storage on Novell servers is promoted using sub-allocated hard drive volumes. The sub-allocated volume is a new characteristic and has been applied on Netware 4.x in order to overcome the wasted disk space problem.
Sub-allocated Novell volumes are quiet different from regular volumes because these are more of a ‘virtual’ volume- the volume which is not visible, but stays nevertheless- and it is what makes the issue difficult.
Since the sub-allocated volumes are not physically visible, the separate data recovery element has to be integrated in the Novell recovery software in order to ensure the complete Novell partition recovery.
Technical part of the issue
The sub-allocation refers to the multiple file-ending sharing hard disk blocks. The data of a file is stored on the hard drive in several blocks, every block being an anthology of sectors of typical size.
There are, approximately always, some unutilized hard drive sectors at the end of the file. These ‘under-allocated’ sectors of various files are combined mutually to form a separate virtual volume.
Though, sub-allocated volumes are very useful to properly utilize the hard drive space, but sometimes in case of accidental deletion, the Novell recovery from such volumes becomes very critical. General Novell partition recovery software could not perform the same and thus may put you in a big dilemma.
The sub-allocated Novell volumes are virtual, that is, they do not show up as separate logical hard drive volume. These are internally used by the Novell operating system (Netware 4.x and above) for utilizing the drive space, and data recovery from these volumes require advanced and powerful Novell Netware recovery software.
The Novell recovery software, which can be used in these situations, should be powerful enough to find all the lost or missing Novell volumes, on which the sub-allocated volumes are designed. To do so, an effective and systematic scan of the affected Novell volumes is required.
Stellar Phoenix Novell Data Recovery is the best ever made and the most powerful Novell recovery software of the data recovery industry. This software is capable of recovering lost data from virtual sub-allocated volumes very effectively and easily.
While scanning the visible Novell hard drive volume, this software also uses a highly developed module to detect the invisible volume and scan it. After completing the scan, this Novell Netware recovery software lists all the files in a simple tree structure. You can select the required files from the tree and can recover them.
