When you reboot your Windows computer after a hard drive corruption or after your computer has not been shut down cleanly, you may encounter the following error message in Ntfs.sys:
“STOP 0x0000000A”
After this error message, the boot process gets halted.
Cause
This STOP error occurs when NTFS attempts to mount a hard drive partition whose MFT or boot sector has got corrupted. One potential reason of corruption that could cause this problem is ‘dirty’ shutdown.
However, some other types of damage could also cause this issue. Not all hard drive corruption results into this problem. In several situations, the corruption simply prevents the hard drive from being mounted.
