Rectifying “Lack of Root Filesystem Space…” Error Message in Sun Solaris operating system

Kernel patches in Solaris operating system are primarily installed to increase the performance and remove the bugs. While kernel patches provide lots of benefits, installing these patches might also result into an error message. Once the error message appears, the system becomes unbootable making all the data saved on the hard drive inaccessible. To resolve such issues, a perfect solution is to restore the data from an up-to-date backup. However, if no backup is available or backup fails to restore the desired information, then you need to use efficient Sun Solaris Sparc Recovery Software.

As a practical case, you install Solaris 10 kernel patches 137137-09 (SPARC) on your system. After the installation is finished,

Evaluating:

After the above error message appears, the system become unbootable and the data saved on the hard drive becomes inaccessible.

Cause:

The root cause for the occurrence of the above error message is change in the boot architecture due to installation of kernel patches. The above error message primarily occurs on SPARC systems where there is less than 550MB of free space in the root file system.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error and access the data, you need to follow thes steps:

1. Boot your computer from the network/CD/DVD using a Solaris 10 05/08 (or later).

2. Mount the root filesystem slice to /<root-fs-mount-point>

3. rm -f /<root-fs-mount-point>/platform/`uname -m`/boot_archive

4. /<root-fs-mount-point>/sbin/bootadm -a update_all

However, if the above steps fail to resolve the issue and the data still remains inaccessible, then you need to use powerful Sun Solaris Sparc Data Recovery Software to recover your data. Such Sun Solaris Sparc Recovery tools use high end scanning mechanisms to recover your data. These recovery applications recover your data after fsck is unable to repair the system data structures.

Stellar Phoenix (Solaris - Sparc) software is a powerful Sun Solaris Data Recovery utility that recovers data from Solaris operating system on Sparc platform. This non destructive recovery tool supports UFS file systems. It gets installed in Windows (XP, 2003, 2000, NT, ME, 98 and 95) and the affected UNIX hard drive should be connected as slave.
