Tips to resolve “PANIC_STACK_SWITCH” Error message in Windows

Posted: Aug 10, 2009 |Comments: 0 |

A Kernel is one of the most important components of every computer system. While a Kernel is hidden under various layers of applications and software, it includes characteristics like computer architecture, goal designing and more. A STOP error message at the start up of Windows based system can occur due to data corruption in Kernel. Once the STOP error message occurs, the data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. For complete access of data in such situations, you will need to use restore the data from an updated backup. However, if no updated backup is maintained or backup fails to restore the desired information, then you will need to use advanced Partition Recovery software to recover your data.

Consider a practical scenario, where you encounter the below error message when you attempt to start your computer system:

"STOP: 0x0000002B (parameter 1, parameter 2, parameter 3, parameter 4) PANIC_STACK_SWITCH"

The four parameters in the above error message are explained as follows:

Parameter 1: The trap frame

Parameter 2: Reserved

Parameter 3: Reserved

Parameter 4: Reserved

After the error message occurs, the hard drive becomes unmountable making the data saved in the hard drive inaccessible. Furthermore, you encounter the same error message each time you attempt to start your system.

Cause:

The above STOP error message primarily occurs when a Kernel-mode driver uses a large stack space. Another cause for the occurrence of the error message can be serious data corruption in the Kernel.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error message and access the data saved in the hard drive, you need to follow the below steps:

  • Remove the new installed driver and reboot your system.

  • Startup your system with Last Known Good Configuration to undo all the recent registry and driver changes

  • Use Emergency Repair Disk

The probability of complete resolution of the problem by using all the above measures is not 100%. So, if you still encounter the error message after applying the above measures, then the best solution is to reinstall Windows. A fresh reinstall of Windows will completely erase all the data saved on the hard drive partition. For complete recovery of data in such situations, you will need to use powerful partition recovery software. Such File Recovery applications incorporate high end scanning algorithms to completely scan and recover data from a formatted hard drive.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is the foremost File Recovery software. It recovers lost data from corrupted, deleted, formatted or lost hard drive partitions. The read only tool supports185 different file types. It is compatible with FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems. The software supports Windows 7 (Currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000.
