Windows Registry Troubleshooting and Repair

What Is The Registry?

The Windows registry is a very important filing system that acts as the central nervous system of your computer. It stores all the preference and settings information for administrative settings, file associations, permissions, as well as individual user settings for software and hardware. The registry is made up of different files and folders which vary in name and location depending on your version of Windows.

Windows constantly references the registry as you use your computer. This is why registry errors, clutter, and corruption can lead to severe computer problems. Examples of registry-related troubles are crashes, freezes, dll errors, ActiveX problems, runtime errors, as well as overall sluggish performance. Often the cause of a computer that seems to be slowing down over time is a cluttered Windows registry.

How Does The Registry Get Damaged Or Corrupted?

The registry is prone to damage from a variety of sources and causes. One of the most common causes of problems is the incomplete uninstallation of software and hardware drivers. Pieces of programs often get left behind in the registry and cause conflicts with new or existing software and hardware.

Another way the registry gets cluttered is when temporary registry files get created but are never removed. When the registry gets too big it can cause Windows to bog down and run slowly.

The Best Way To Fix Registry Errors

Removal of these pieces and clutter is often difficult, and you must use a registry cleaner software program to do it unless you know precisely what you're looking for. Most people do not know how to properly deal with the registry and can end up causing damage when they try to manually clean it. Using a registry cleaner is a safe and effective way of cleaning the registry.

How to Solve PST Hotsync Issues?

By: MOHIT MATHUR | 24/11/2009
HotSync is defined as the method of linking a computer system and a Palm handheld device to allow a sophisticated synchronization between the two systems. When you setup Outlook to hotsync with your Palm device, all PST contents, which include emails, tasks, appointments etc., can be synchronized. Odds are that the synchronization process may fail if the PST file is corrupt. You can repair a corrupted PST using Scanpst.exe but when this doesn't work you need a PST Repair application.

Whenever you browse the internet on your Windows PC you leave behind traces of your activities. This can include website addresses, text phrases entered into search bars (such as Google and MSN), cookies, images that have been loaded into your browser, and more.
