7 Things You Must Do to Have a Perfect First Date

It's got to be one of the hardest stages of any budding relationship. Your first date with a potential romantic partner sets the tone for the rest of your relationship. In fact a bad first date can end a budding relationship right then and there. It has been said the first date is like a job interview, and i would agree with that to a certain extent, however you are both playing potential employer and employee at the same time, so it's like a job interview but with the stress level doubled. So how do you make your first date perfect?

There are a few things you can do to make the event a lot less stressful for both parties, and if you apply the following seven tips, you will be well on your way to achieving a successful first date.

1. Choose the venue with care - It may seem obvious, but even before the date you should put a bit of effort into selecting the ideal venue, if you are going out for dinner, make sure the restaurant you choose is suitable for your date. Find out what they like to eat, and if there are any must haves, don't for example end up taking a vegetarian to a steak house.

2. Pay attention to personal hygiene - Make sure you are sweet smelling and odor free, nothing sours a potential relationship quicker than offensive Body odor, but don't overdo it either, as overuse of cologne can make you into a walking chemical weapon, albeit a fragrant one.

3. Dress for the occasion - Don't wear a scruffy t shirt and jeans with a pair of trainers that look like they have seen better days. Dress appropriately for the place you are going, and look like you put some effort into your appearance, it wont go unnoticed.

4. Take a small gift - OK you may be thinking it's a bit old fashioned and cheesy in this day and age if you turn up with a bunch of flowers, that may be true, but a small gift, that shows you have put a bit of thought into it, will always gets a smile, and is a great ice breaker.

5. Make sure you are there mentally as well as physically - Pay attention to what your date is saying. Pass a few compliments and ask some questions. There is no bigger turn off than your date not paying you any attention.

6. Make eye contact and use friendly body language - It goes hand in hand with point 5, but as well as listening look into your dates eyes. You can also appear friendly and welcoming by not folding your arms and leaning towards your date, when they speak. It all helps to make a pleasant atmosphere.

7. To kiss or not to kiss - At the end of the date subtle body language cues will tell you if your date has warmed to you, and if that first kiss is on the agenda. This is never an easy judgment to make, however there are clues you can look for. Have they touched you, for example, brushed against your arm whilst talking to you, is their body language open, no crossed arms or leaning away from you, are they looking into your eyes, if the answer is yes then lean in and kiss.

Well done you did it, following the above tips should get you that second date, and will help you to pass your first date interview.
