A Chance Encounter Of Love On The Riding Trail

Posted: Mar 15, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

I am a lady that is well over 40. I've seen lots of people get into dating relationships that never last because they have little to nothing in common. I've also seen people that have nothing in common to begin with talk to each other like ducks to water and have absolutely fabulous relationships too.

I had been through the over 40 singles dating scene lots of times before and just never found a relationship that was worth the effort it took to keep it going. I was out with my horse on a riding trail one afternoon about six months before when all of that changed for me. You see, that was when Deacon caught up with me on the trail. He introduced himself and asked if I was up for some company on that lovely Spring afternoon. I thought nothing of it and told him that I liked the idea. We rode for about an hour and just chatted as though we had known each other for years. We talked about our lives and work situations and everything that you could think of. Although we did have only a couple of interests in common, I decided to go out with Deacon when he asked me out.

As it turned out, we both had been burned badly in the "over 40 singles dating" arena. We both had almost given up on finding love when out "chance" meeting happened that day on the riding trails. Deacon later told me that he had seen me out riding many times before that day and never had the courage to do what he did that day until he simply decided to take the chance.

I had seen him many times before in town and never thought anything like that could be true about him. He was such a people person that I found this hard to believe at first when he told me. We dated for about 8 months before we both decided that this was it, and we ended up asked each other the same question together. I asked Deacon to marry me as he asked me to be his wife. We both laughed like hyenas over this and realized that this must be a sign.

This "synchronicity" meant that something certainly had changed in our lives. That change was certainly for the better all the way around for Deacon and myself as we love each other like nobody's business!

In life I think it's fair to say that women drew the short straw enduring monthly periods, PMT, giving birth and the menopause; all producing more hormones than she, and anyone within arms length distance, can cope with.

For people who are still single after 40, dating expats is in fact worthwhile to explore. Finding a soulmate in the "seven seas" is even made easier. The online community is fast rivaling the actual populations of a country. The search for greener pastures have propelled exodus to lands of plenty, and incidentally, lands where people are marrying later and birth rates are declining.

I really hate being disrespected. I do not understand why people would rather ignore the person they are with to talk to someone else on the phone who is not around. When I was a little girl, I always imagined my life ending up a certain way. I wanted the perfect life, with the perfect house, and the perfect husband and family. Life has a way of upending the plans you make and showing you that even the best of plans will not always bear the fruit you want.
